This is an extensive collection of science lessons and laboratory procedures compiled by the Great Lakes Collaborative and the University of Kansas. The site offers a highly detailed outline of science concepts, and it provides a selection of different lessons and lab resources for each concept. All lessons are available as Adobe Acrobat PDF files which can be downloaded and printed on your printer. The index page groups these by topic, and each page includes instructions and illustrations. Many of the projects are suitable for "do at home" activities. Great resource!

Allow students to choose from the activities offered on this site to learn more about natural science. Post a link on your class web page or newsletter for parents and students to use at home. With younger students, take photos, or have older students take photos, of the the steps and results of their experiment they make and post them on your website for parents to see. Older students could enhance their learning by posting the photos with and explanation using a portfolio tool such as Mahara, reviewed here. Mahara also offers tools for incorporating blogs. This site from the Museum of Natural History is a rich resource for images of dinosaurs. You can select by body type, country, geologic time period, and other idicies. Apart from the images, which are watermarked, there is only basic information on the size and environment of each creature on the landing page, however, scroll WAY down to the bottom of the page for a site menu. Look for Discover, and under that Dinosaurs. On this page you will find a WEALTH of information from an Introduction to Dinosaurs to Dinosaur behavior, abilities, lifestyles, to Dinosaur Digs, and even Dinosaur Crafts and Activities. While not intended for elementary students, the navigation is simple enough for these students to use effectively in finding images.

In a unit on dinosaurs, share this site on an interactive whiteboard or projector with students. The function they will find most interesting about this site is the area that describes the dinosaurs that existed in their local area! In the Classroom
Make a shortcut to this site on your desktop and use it as a center. Allow students to review the site, making sure to include headphones for the audio portions. There are a lot of random, but interesting, facts about sharks on this site that will maintain students interest. Have students decide what facts were the most interesting, and use their comments to spur a class discussion comparing sharks to other mammals the class has studied. A useful way to do this would be to use a venn diagram tool on the interactive whiteboard or projector, allowing all students to participate at once.
